Prayer for Our Children by Amy Carmichael

Father, hear us, we are praying,
Hear the words our hearts are saying,
We are praying for our children.

Keep them from the powers of evil,
From the secret, hidden peril,
From the whirlpool that would suck them,
From the treacherous quicksand, pluck them.

From the worldling’s hollow gladness,
From the sting of faithless sadness,
Holy Father, save our children.

Through life’s troubled waters steer them,
Through life’s bitter battle cheer them,
Father, Father, be Thou near them.
Read the language of our longing,
Read the wordless pleadings thronging,
Holy Father, for our children.

And wherever they may bide,
Lead them Home at eventide.

Praising our Father for Amy Carmichael and for Elizabeth Elliot who quoted her so much and wrote a biography of Amy! Both women have made such a great impact on my life for probably 40 years! God is good!

This hymn / poem by Amy Carmichael ( which was composed in the later 1800's I believe ) is about children being protected by Our Lord thru his love and thru our faith in his love is so amazing. Also the life story of Amy and how she came about wanting to help children who needed someone to take an interest in them is quite moving. I have five grown children and three little grandchildren who are in my prayers nightly because in this world we live in they need the hand of God on them to keep them out of harms way. Our God is such a loving God to be there as He always is when we call out and pray .I thank Him always . It is wonderful that I stumbled on this site and found another Christian leader like Amy to learn from. Dec .17, 17

Beautiful poem. We are praying for our children as Vacation Bible School approaches and as I was searching for poems for our prayer team, I came upon this one. I am using it today as I call our prayer team and pray for our children to come to truly know and serve Jesus.

  • “In case any are puzzled by the different translations from which I draw strength and help and delight, it is like this: In studying any object with the microscope we use different lenses and turn the mirror in various ways; each change brings out some new wonder and beauty. So it is for those who are not Greek or Hebrew scholars, and who use the work of scholars to open the meaning of the exhaustible Word–the Bible is richer than any single version can fully show.” – Amy Carmichael

Verse of the Day

[Folly of the Godless, and God’s Final Triumph] To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good. — Psalm 14:1 (NKJV)
