But God by Annie Johnson Flint

I know not, but God knows;
Oh, blessed rest from fear!
All my unfolding days
To Him are plain and clear.

Each anxious, puzzled “Why?”
From doubt or dread that grows,
Finds answer in this thought;
I know not, but He knows.

I cannot, but God can;
Oh, balm for all my care!
The burden that I drop
His hand will lift and bear,

Though eagle pinions tire —
I walk where once I ran —
This is my strength, to know
I cannot, but God can.

I see not, but God sees;
Oh, all-sufficient light!
My dark and hidden way
To Him is always bright.

My strained and peering eyes
May close in restful ease,
And I in peace may sleep;
I see not, but He sees.

    Do you know when this was originally published?

      hi Whitney, I am not sure when the poem was published but Annie lived from 1866-1932. :) There is little said or known about the poem.

    Love this poem not least because I have been living in the name of God _EL ROI the God who see- for the past year. When the words of others hurt- God sees. When I don't react but zip-my-lip God sees. When I cant even form words around unspoken hurts and cares- God see.. A great book indeed is "The God who sees" by Tammy Maltby which id highly recommend for any hurting soul which does not only feed you "nice" stuff but offers lots of challenges along the way...Anyway sharing a short poem i wrote myself of late which I'm living in too "Grace folded in on grace, Like corners of a paper plane, Which then takes flight, And dances,`till it, Softly, Gently lands. Grace dance with me today. Grace land on me today" "My grace is sufficient for you" 2 Cor 12.9.

  • ”As we grow spiritually, God begins to wean us from things that we think we can’t live without: things, comfort, the longing for life to ‘work.’ That’s a childish instinct, to say, ‘Life has to work the way I want it to work, and now’.” – Nancy Leigh DeMoss

Verse of the Day

To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. — Colossians 1:27-28 (NKJV)
