Motherhood: An Eternal Investment by GraceAnna Castleberry

I think as moms we can be discouraged if we begin to believe that motherhood is pointless. When we forget that there is a grand goal and an aim. The disobedience and messes on an ordinary Wednesday afternoon can seem pointless and laborious if we don’t believe that they mean something. How does my child’s disobedience and whining fit into the grand scheme of life? What is my purpose as their mom in this moment? Am I just making it to dinner time?

Faith believes that the ordinary and difficult moments have great significance and are a holy training ground. Faith knows that God gave these children to you and you to your children.

Unbelief says “just get through” “no one sees you” and “I’m exhausted and these kids are driving me crazy.” But faith believes that the ordinary and difficult moments have great significance and are a holy training ground. Faith knows that God gave these children to you and you to your children. Faith knows that motherhood isn’t pointless.

There is an aim. A mighty purpose. Mothers who forget their mission (as I have done on many a day), find the daily grind incredibly difficult and discouraging. How can we persevere if it’s pointless? But praise God it isn’t! Motherhood is grand because God is. His glory is beyond what we could ever imagine and we are by His grace raising children to bring Him glory.

Motherhood isn’t pointless. It isn’t insignificant. This is a season in your story that matters for all eternity. You are raising future men and women to glorify God in this world. You are making an eternal investment.

We are directing, channeling, training, discipling, suffering, believing, loving, not because we believe in our children, but because we believe in God and what He can do in them. Motherhood isn’t pointless. It isn’t insignificant. This is a season in your story that matters for all eternity. You are raising future men and women to glorify God in this world. You are making an eternal investment.

God sees the corners you aren’t cutting and it MATTERS. Get sleep when you can. Read the Bible for five minutes. Pray with your kids. Go to church however you can. And walk by faith. God is doing a great work before your eyes on an ordinary Thursday morning.
