• “Christ makes it clear that we cannot love both Him and the things that charm and ravish this world. We cannot be dazzled by the images of pop-culture and captivated by the King of all kings” – Leslie Ludy

The Professionals by Nancy Leigh DeMoss 08/10/11

Nancy Leigh DeMoss: You can hire “professionals” to do just about anything these days, from fixing your computer to mowing your lawn. We’ve especially been trained to take our emotional problems to the experts, looking for professionals and pills to solve the problems of soul and spirit.

There may be a place for psychologists and therapists, if their counsel is rooted in God’s Word. But remember the words of James 5.

“Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him. Confess your faults one to another and pray one for another.”

James says that when you’re hurting, first let the body of Christ minister grace. Ask them to pray with you. Confess any sin that might be causing emotional weakness or sickness, and start to be accountable to other believers.

With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy Leigh DeMoss.

  • “In all places and at all times, we can have that familiar friendship, we can have Him with us; and there may be through the day a constant interchange of private words, of little offerings, too small to have any name attached to them—by which the bonds of that familiar friendship grow closer and more real, until it comes to that special personal intimacy, which we call sanctity.” – Janet Erskine Stuart, 1857-1914

Verse of the Day

And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, — Philippians 1:9-10 (NKJV)
