Prayers Ancient and Modern 07/09

Grant, O Lord, that we ma carefully watch over our tempers and every unholy feeling; remove whatever in us may be a stumbling-block in another’s way; that, by conforming to Thy will in small things, we may hope by Thy protection and help to pass safely through the greater dangers and trials to which we may be exposed—Amen.

Christina G. Rossetti.

We beseech Thee O Lord, to renew Thy people inwardly and outwardly, that as Thou wouldest not have them to be hindered by bodily pleasures, Thou mayest make them vigorous with spiritual purpose and refresh them in such sort by things transitory, that Thou mayest grant them rather to cleave to things eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord—Amen.

Leonine, A.D. 440.

Hello and bless you Brandy Gordon, Dear sister and bondservant in Christ, I found you this morning after tracking down something Amy Carmichael wrote. Amy has been a great blessing to me and I pray the LORD continue to bless this site as you seek Him more yourself and to be an encourager of others through shedding abroad His love, from your heart. ... "’What can so enrich the soul that reflects upon it [the holy name of Jesus]? What can . . . fortify the virtues, engender good and honorable dispositions, foster holy affections? Dry is every kind of spiritual food, which this oil does not moisten. Insipid, whatever this salt does not season. If thou writest, thy composition has no charms for me, unless I read there the name of Jesus. If thou disputest or conversest, I find no pleasure in thy words, unless I hear there the name of Jesus. Jesus is honey in the mouth, melody in the ear, a cry of joy in the heart. ..." [Bernard of Clairvaux (1091 - 1153);]" http://unhurriedtime.com/tag/bernard-of-clairvaux/ Your Brother, philwithJESUS

Verse of the Day

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. — James 3:17-18 (NKJV)
