• “Whether we’re married or single, with children or childless, at every season of life if we are trying to find fulfillment and contentment and joy through anything or anyone other than Christ Himself, we’re setting ourselves up for disappointment.” – Elisabeth Elliott

Joy and Strength 03/16

Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
Jer. xxxi. 3.

My song is love unknown;
My Saviour’s love to me;
Love to the loveless shown,
That they might lovely be.
Samuel Grossman.

HE so governs and shapes all the circumstances of life, that if we use them aright we may draw near to Him here, and prepare to be near Him in the Forever after. He longs for our love, — our love, which is so feeble and faint, and yet so precious in His sight when we give it to Him freely. And why does He so desire it? Ah! I have told you many times before, and yet we cannot too often remember it, that it is because, if we love Him, He can make us supremely happy. All that belongs to us, or occurs to us, in this life, is so ordered that we may find in it the means of putting far from us those obstructions of evil which prevent us from seeing Him as He is, and as He has revealed Himself to us; for if we did but so see Him, how could we fail to love Him with the whole heart and soul?
Theophilus Parsons.

How shall we become lovely? By loving Him who is ever lovely.
St. Augustine

  • “In case any are puzzled by the different translations from which I draw strength and help and delight, it is like this: In studying any object with the microscope we use different lenses and turn the mirror in various ways; each change brings out some new wonder and beauty. So it is for those who are not Greek or Hebrew scholars, and who use the work of scholars to open the meaning of the exhaustible Word–the Bible is richer than any single version can fully show.” – Amy Carmichael

Verse of the Day

[Obedience by Faith] If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also. — 1 John 4:20-21 (NKJV)
