• “I never felt such an entire emptiness of self-love, or any regard to any private, selfish interest of my own. It seemed to me, that I had entirely done with myself. I felt that the opinions of the world concerning me were nothing, and that I had no more to do with any outward interest of my own, than with that of a person whom I never saw. The glory of God seemed to be all, and in all, and to swallow up every wish and desire of my heart” – Sarah Edwards, wife of Jonathan Edwards

Martha Snell Nicholson

Margaret Snell Nicholson was a woman who suffered from four incurable diseases. She struggled with pain more than thirty-five years, an invalid, bound to her bed.  Her spirit was so transcendently triumphant through those many weary years, that she wrote some of the finest Christian poetry which has ever been written.

I love Martha Snell Nicholson. She is such an inspiration, and I greatly admire her. I am currently reading her AMAZING book, "His Banner Over Me." I would love to own this book -it is such a treasure! Sadly, I am unable to find it available for sale anywhere that's price is affordable. I've only found one for $117.06 on Amazon.com and another for $70. If anyone knows where I could purchase this book please let me know. Perhaps leave a comment or something if you have any information concerning this book. I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you! GOD Bless! :)

I am hoping to find what may be the transcript from a radio program. A poem by Martha Snell Nicholson was read. I think it was titled The Old Brown Coat and was written after her husband passed away. It had to have been written well before 1980, because that is when my father died. I had a copy which I sent to my step-mother. I have many times since given copies to widows. It has proved to be a source of comfort to them. It speaks of her beloved husband, his death and how she gave away all of his effects, but could not bear to part with his old brown coat. I cannot find my copy and having no luck locating it online. Any help locating this poem would be appreciated.

The name of the poem is Surcease. I don't know the rules of copying it, but I found it on a website, featuring letters to her Church, after the death of Howard Wren Nicholson, her husband. you can email me isherfy@yahoo.com

Verse of the Day

For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor. — Romans 13:6-7 (NKJV)
