• “My soul was filled and overwhelmed with light, and love, and joy in the Holy Ghost, and seemed just ready to go away from the body. I could scarcely refrain from expressing my joy aloud, in the midst of the service. I had in the mean time, an overwhelming sense of the glory of God, as the Great Eternal All, and of the happiness of having my own will entirely subdued to his will. I knew that the foretaste of glory, which I then had in my soul, came from him, that I certainly should go to him, and should, as it were, drop into the Divine Being, and be swallowed up in God.” – Sarah Edwards, wife of Jonathan Edwards

Sin Will Disappoint You by Nancy Leigh DeMoss 03/05/12

“I thought that by taking our relationship to another level, you know, physically, my boyfriend and I would be closer. But sleeping together has just caused more problems—a lot more!”

Nancy Leigh DeMoss: We think wrong choices will make us happy, but sin never pays what it promises us. It might yield some pleasure, but Hebrews 11 refers to it as “fleeting pleasure.”

“I thought I’d be the life of the party. Now I’m spending all my time in a recovery program.”

Nancy: We all know what it’s like to sinfully indulge our flesh, hoping for some kind of relief or emotional thrill. But when it’s over, we don’t usually look back and say, “Wow, that was sure worth it!” If we’re honest we’d have to say, “That brief pleasure wasn’t worth the price I paid to get it.”

Sinful pleasures just don’t last. We need to remember that when we face temptation. Instead, trust God’s Word when He promises to reward faithfulness.

With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy Leigh DeMoss.

  • “In case any are puzzled by the different translations from which I draw strength and help and delight, it is like this: In studying any object with the microscope we use different lenses and turn the mirror in various ways; each change brings out some new wonder and beauty. So it is for those who are not Greek or Hebrew scholars, and who use the work of scholars to open the meaning of the exhaustible Word–the Bible is richer than any single version can fully show.” – Amy Carmichael
