I Have My Rights by Nancy Leigh DeMoss 05/05/11

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal and that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights . . .”

“A right to time off and vacation days.”

“I have a right to get some help around this house!”

“Oh, I DO have a right to get a good night’s sleep.”

“I have a right to chicken done right!”

“. . . and the pursuit of happiness.”

Nancy Leigh DeMoss: From the Constitution to fast food chicken, “I’ve got a right” has become the cry of Western civilization, but successful relationships and healthy cultures aren’t built on the claiming of rights. They’re built on the yielding of rights.

Listen to Philippians 2:4: “Each of you should look not only to your own interests but also to the interests of others.”

When I stake out my rights, even the smallest violation can leave me uptight. The solution is to yield everything to the One who ultimately holds all rights.

With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy Leigh DeMoss.

Verse of the Day

[Jesus a Third Time Predicts His Death and Resurrection] Now Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside on the road and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.” — Matthew 20: 17-19 (NKJV)
