• “They only did what God permitted them to do, which enabled me always to keep God in sight… When we suffer, we should always remember that God inflicts the blow. Wicked men, it is true, are not infrequently His instruments; and the fact does not diminish, but simply develops their wickedness. But when we are so mentally disposed that we love the strokes we suffer, regarding them as coming from God, and as expressions of what He sees best for us, we are then in the proper state to look forgivingly and kindly upon the subordinate instrument which He permits to smite us.” – Madame Guyon

No Fruit on a Dead Tree by Nancy Leigh DeMoss 04/17/12

“I’m generally a good person. I make it to church when I can.”

Nancy Leigh DeMoss: Christ calls us to something deeper and more fulfilling than just being a pretty good person. He invites us to be transformed into His image.

“I might cheat on my taxes once in a while, but I never cheat on my wife. So I look at it that it cancels each other.”

Nancy: Trying to do good things apart from Christ is like gluing oranges onto a dead tree. We can try to attach all the fruit we want, but it doesn’t change the tree.

In the same way, God isn’t impressed by some good works tacked on to a dead person. He wants to make us alive, like a growing tree that produces real fruit.

The apostle Paul says that as we contemplate the Lord’s glory, we will be transformed “into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord.”

Are you spending time with God in prayer and the Word, letting Him transform you into His image?

With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy Leigh DeMoss.

Excellent! This is so right. He tranforms us when we take the time he makes the time and tranforms us!

Verse of the Day

knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. — 1 Peter 1:18-19 (NKJV)
